Home-Made Cat Food Recipes
I want to make my own cat food. I feel maybe that would be healthy and cheap too if I made my own food for the cats. Does anyone know some great recipe in how make cat food for them?
My cat is female, nine years old and has CONSTANT diarrhea. Has had this for years. I suspect irritable bowl syndrome. My cat's a stray. When I got her her teeth had been kicked out. So she's no teeth and I give her wet food. Any food I give her..goes through her in minutes. GROSS PART she hasn't had a solid bowl movement in a long time. Years to be specific. My other cat is fine..apart from being fat he doesn't have the problem my other one does. How to I prepare the raw cat food diet? Any recipes, how to?
We started our puppy on homemade dog food.
She did great ! until she started eating the cat's food !!
now she will not touch her veggie/chicken/rice stew..
she was originally on purina puppy chow.. she did okay with that..
she is now 9 months old.. 6 pounds cutie patootie !
btw.. if i don't let her near the cat's food.. eventually she eats her food.. just worried because sometimes that is not until hours later..
thanks a million..
I prepare my own cat food from times to times following some recipes, and I have read that fish oil is necessary. I brought from the farmacy the fish oil capsules. It doesn't specify what type of fish it is, and it also says that it contains Soy Lecithine tracres. Is it good to give them this? should I pop the capsule and just use the content? Could I give them olive oil instead?
My has had problems with canned cat food, and I think it's just not healthy. What is a good recipe for homemade cat food - something healthy and nutritious?
My poor cat Ringo, a 3rd generation Highlander (ancestry with bobcats) has stopped eating except for stupid junk food treats. He started refusing his Natural Balance kibble in favor of only eating Party Mix and Temptations and Fancy Feast wet food. He is prone to being a nervous cat, most likely has some IBS, which I am addressing by swapping food products to address any food allergies or intolerance which is there for him to eat 24/7 but he won't eat it! I thought I was successful at getting him to eat wet food but after carefully observing him, I noticed that all he did was lick all the food of the sauce and wasn't taking in any protein. I actually saw him take a bite then spit it out. It was almost as if he couldn't be bothered chewing it up and when the food stuck to the dish, he couldn't be bothered to work to get it off the plate to eat. My vet has run blood and fecal analysis and came back inconclusive of anything. They gave me appetite pills and a GI antibiotic (?) which I administer both twice a day. Today I opened up a can of real tuna and he ate like there was no tomorrow but only about 2 TBSP and then later on when it was offered to him again, was not so interested anymore. His behaviors have changed dramatically...he does not clean himself anymore, he does not seem alert to everything like he used to be, he prefers to be off by himself where he just lies around, when outside he is not interested in exploring anymore just finds a place to hide. I cannot coax him to play like I used to, he does not "talk" to us anymore. I have read online that liver cancer is very common to cats, also that renal failure can occur within a week of a cat not eating. Well, Ringo seems to have been on a decline since probably Thanksgiving but with all the holiday crap, we didn't notice until he had lost 3.5 lbs (he's now lost 4.5 total) and was looking emaciated. Also, we had been battling ear mites since September but didn't realize he didn't have mites but a yeast infection in his ear which has now been cleared up. He also has an intermittent runny eye which I treat with eye ointment the vet gave me and that is now cleared up. What I am saying is Ringo has had a LOT to stress him out...with the prior ailments plus all the holiday crap with constant house full of people, parties, and strange pets others brought around here and there ( a dwarf bunny, a Chihuahua, 2 manic Pomeranians). I am afraid to think about the possibility of FIP which I understand is untreatable so for now my mission is to get him to eat and put on weight. My question is....what kind of food, in how much quanitity...like people say give him canned pumpkin or sweet potato with his food...but how much? Also, I'm told baby food is a good try. If he weighs 8.5lbs today that seems like he should be ingesting between 1/4 to 1/2 cup of food per day although at 13 lbs he was meant to eat 1/2 to 2/3 cup per day. At this point I can barely coax 1/4 cup of food into him and that didn't happen until today after he lost another 1/4 lb in a week... How much water should he be consuming a day? And if he is not consuming enough water, should I be force feeding him the water?
I want to start making homemade cat food for my cats but I can't find any recipes to make the food like it comes out of the bags (hard and crunchy). For some reason my cats really like crunchy food. Does anyone have any recipes for this or links to websites or blogs about this? Thankyou :)
I have finally decided to start a blog. I don't have a target audience and although it is mainly for myself I find myself stumped on a name for it. It will be about anything that interests me. Examples: current events, weird facts, anything in the media, celebrities, jewelry, fashion in general, makeup, music, art, my cat lol, dating, my social life, drinking, school, work, pictures I take/pictures I draw, recipes, food I make, things I do, restaurants and the list goes on. Just basically whatever I think is interesting or whatever I have an opinion on. So these are just ideas and I have no one to ask at the moment so like i said, opinions or suggestions would be great. Even words to add on to the words I already have or something completely different. Thanks. I came up with these ideas based off of talking a lot or something. I am 22 by the way just to give you a better idea.
Jawbone
Schmooze
Grapevine
Hit or miss
(Also this question is probably in the wrong category so I apologize for that)
I am interested in trying to make some gravy for my cat. I have done some research on yahoo answers and on other sites. Most all the answers I have come across give alternatives to making gravy, like finding a different cat food. I am not planning on making gravy for my cat and then only giving him just that, I'd like to find a healthy recipe for gravy that I could add to other foods. I understand that I can make him a healthy chicken broth but I need to know what is the best method to thicken it? Is flour, corn starch harmful to kitty's? What else could I use?
I am thinking of preparing homemade cat food every now and then, so I was wondering if there are any good recipes (where ingredients will be preferebly measured using cups and not in grams, since I don't have a scale)
I am a middle aged woman living with three cats and my children visit often.
I do not enjoy cooking for hours as i suffer depression.I do not care for most casseroles .
I don't want lots of pasta or carbs. Can you give my ideas for simple ,inexpensive food to buy and make the next three weeks with a $200 budget .
Any creative recipes that include fruits and veggies and protein would be a great help.
Thanks so much.
I'm currently feeding Natural Balance Green Pea and Chicken grain free recipe mixed with Earthborn Holistic Primitive Feline (got it on sale, but cat doesn't seem to like it as much, so I mix a little in with the Natural Balance). Since it is no longer as cost effective as used to be for me to get the Natural Balance, I was wondering if I should switch over to Blue Buffalo once the food she's currently eating runs out (yes I know you don't switch immediately and I'll do the whole mixing thing). I heard lots of good reviews about Blue Buffalo Wilderness and was wondering if its worth the money. I'd go with the chicken recipe and I want to go with Wilderness only (as opposed to other Blue varieties) since I want grain-free. She's a colorpoint shorthair at 8 months old and has never coughed up a hairball.
I'm talking about dry food, by the way. She gets wet food from time to time, but I prefer to go with dry because she doesn't like wet food very much anymore.
Well I want a kitten and I don't have much experience with them.. And I was wondering what kitten breed is best for me.. I did those quizzes and stuff but in hoping to get a real person's point of view!
Okay, I would be living in a spacious apartment! It's brand new and built only a few months ago.. You see, I'm moving country
However it will have to be an indoor kitten..
Also, I would prefer the cat to not have many illnesses! Because of where I'm moving, there's a lot of pet stores or vets do I can't go to the vet if it's ill!!
You'd probably be thinking how am I gonna get its food and stuff if there's no pet stores, but I have looked up homemade recipes for cats! :D it's more healthier and apparently some pet foods are made from roadkill or diseased animals -.-
I found out how to make your own litter as well, but after 6 months, ive decided to toilet train it! The apartment has two bathrooms so I'm willing to give one of the bathrooms for the cat!
I want an affectionate kitten that is beside you all the time but would be okay alone when I'm at school. The school times at that country is much less than here apparently! So instead of six hours, it'll be like 4?
So in the end, it should be affectionate, follows me around, and doesn't get I'll too much, can live indoors and doesn't shed TOO much! I don't mind if it sheds a normal amount
Thanks (:
Ok so I'm 17 and I've been in an Architecture program in high school for 3 years now and next year will be my 4th year in it. It gives no college credit but it'll offer some in my 4th year and it'll give me an advantage when I go to college (If I choose Architecture as a career choice, which is unlikely).
Lately I haven't really liked the subject's courses and line of work but it looked great 3 years ago when I was choosing programs.
Now I'm having second thoughts about being an Architect, the architects that I've heard had said they earn by how many commissions they get (and they say it's lucky to get some), they work all-nighters when they do have one and go weeks at a time without one. I want something steady and reliable.
When I was younger I wanted to be a Vet, then before that a restaurant owner, then real estate (I don't know why I wanted to do that as a kid), basically I'm not sure what I should follow.
I don't want to be a stay at home mom, because I want to work to earn my own, I don't like it when people pay for things for me.
I love animals (pets I've owned are rabbits, turtles (big and small), geese, baby chicks, birds of different species, cats, dogs, iguanas, lizards, fish, and a few more I can't remember), plants (my mother has plants everywhere in the house and a big fruit and flower garden), biology, the environment (I'm a captain of our school's recycling group and last year we recycled 72 metric tons), I also like food, I make strange recipes that taste good when I have nothing to do, I like computers too, always on my laptop.
I'm just stumped here.
I've emailed my counselor about taking a career aptitude test but the problem with that is I have to choose a main subject to help pick a specific career, plus my counselor is hard to get a hold of.
What possible careers could I follow with any of these interests?
Suggestions? What do you do? Do you like it?
Oh yeah and my father is a mechanic and my mother is a stay-at-home mom
No scams please
What are some trustworthy brands for wet cat/dog food? Especially for pets who've had a history of puking up food?
And if possible, can I get recipes for homemade wet food?
She eats (well not really eat it any more) Friskies cat food. They change there recipe or so I heard and she really doesn't like it anymore. She still eats Friskies cans and treats fine. She loves chicken flavoured food. I was going to try purina one blends but when I went to the site right now they have a recall on there cat food. She can't eat whiskas ans she wont touch Iams.
I just going to look around but thought to see what someone else might recommend.
So here's the deal,
I'm trying to prepare food for the cat and myself. the only problem is, i'm rather drunk. as such, i find myself absolutely unable to calculate numbers correctly.
that's where you come in.
so i've added a can of "chunk light tuna; in water" (NET WT 5 OZ[142g]), to a measuring jug.
at the same time, i'd like to add the potatoes to the mix so that i might be able to microwave the two together all at once to create the perfect meal in a bowl.
so now commences the process:
i am, as we speak, adding 2/3rds of a cup of potatoes to the jug; that is, on top of the tuna.
catch: we are out of 1/3rd of milk :O sorry...
1 table spoon of margerine... we have that, yus :D!
salt, 1/4 -,-...
water = 2/3rds of a cup... accessible...
FINAL} all the above mentioned should equal 2 servings of potatoes, mashed!.
anyway, i'm really hungry so it doesn't matter what you respond with anyway :P...
the food will be consumed, regardless...
nom nom here i come!!!...
ps: hurray for technology!Q!!!!!!!
Seriously, it's disgusting. I'll catch him about one every week just munching on it, so I have to stop him and (we have this spray for his mouth that's SUPPOSED to get rid of his bad breath and plaque... Its um... Well some of the plaque is gone) spray him. It's when he has food in his bowl too!
I wish I could feed him something different. I sometimes feed him eggs (cooked, no butter or pepper or salt or cheese touches it) when my mom and step dad are out.
Second Q (OPTIONAL TO ANSWER): do you know any recipes I can make for my dog?
He's a minature Collie. 4 years old. Mixed colors. Good health, alil overweight.
My parents have switch my cats' food several times within the past year or so. My 2 cats have gone from Purina Cat Chow Complete Formula (which they had been eating most of their lives), to Purina Cat Chow Indoor Formula, to the Goodlife Recipe foods (Chicken, Indoor, and Salmon), to Purina One SmartBlend Salmon and Tuna flavor.
Now, anyone who has a cat knows how picky they can be about their food. Also, we have begun to give them IAMS canned food once a night (half a can for each cat). They eat up the Purina brands like nothing and when I try to give them the Goodlife Recipe food, they look at it and are like, "What the heck is this?" They have eaten it with a little coaxing and throughout the day when they know they won't get anything for awhile, but I have been told that the Goodlife recipe is better for pets and that Purina causes problems for pets' bladders.
So I have to ask: Of the brands that are out there for cats, which brand that you can buy in the store is proven healthier for cats?
Right now I have some crickets that I want to keep alive for only a week but I have read that crickets are what they eat. Is dog/cat food good enough, or is there a better recipe to make them more nutritious for my crested gecko?
The cat food that my cat's have been eating for years, recently changed their recipe. Now my cat Oddrey throws up every time she eats. I have tried changing to a different style of food, same brand, and giving her smaller amounts, about a cup a day and it seems to be helping a little, but she is still throwing up occasionally. It seems to be a problem with the cat food, because she is not digesting it at all. She doesn't seem to have a problem with anything else I give her. (an occasional treat...)
She has been eating a ton and I have had to start measuring her portions to keep her from gaining too much weight which I never had to do before. The only difference is I used to get her this premium cat food for indoor cats and last time I bought food I had to get "The Goodlife Recipe" cat food because the pet supply store closed in our town and no one else carries what I used to get. Maybe the new food just tastes better?
I have been studying cat food and turns out it has all kinds of animal parts and some are infected with cancer. I need a good replacement food recipe.
it's a young cat, just growing out of kitten-hood. preferably commonly found ingredients...not obscure
When I first got my kitty I had her on kit and kaboodle. I changed her food to Wet Wellness and Natural Instinct. She has a water fountain. I use Fresh Step Odor Control cat litter. I change it once a month. I scoop it three times a day. I had the level of litter at about 3-4 inches deep. I also feed her 1/4 of Wellness Complete Health Deboned Chicken, Chicken Meal, and Rice Recipe.
Could the Wellness Dry caused her bladder infection? Or could the fact that I changet he litter once a month have something to do with it? Has anyone else that had their cat on this food had this problem?
Thanks for your help.
By the way, my cat is a 1 1/2 years old, spayed, and indoor. Siamese Mix.
I think she was on the kit and kaboodle for the first six months of her life. I am trying to remember. That sounds about right.
She was just given antibiotics four days ago. When she was on the kit and kaboodle, she drank a lot and peed fine. The size of her clump in her litter box was big but she was always drinking out of our decorative water fountain so we got her a fountain for cats.
I have 2 cats. One is 1 and the other is 5. At the moment I leave out whiskas dry food and feed them a bowl of whiskas wet food in the evening. However after reading the home page of this website I was shocked and want to make my own cat food instead.
http://www.catnutrition.org/
I'm wondering what pecentages of everything they need (like protien ect.) I have found several recipes however I would like to invent my own based on them but I need the nutritional values!!
Thankyouu x
My 5 year old tom cat has been eating a supermarket dry cat food for the last 2 years and has been fine, 3 weeks ago he had very loose bloody stools for a few days this coincided with the supermarket changing the packaging of the cat food so i thought they must of changed the recipe and it had upset his tummy so I got whiskas, he was fine for a week but then the loose stools returned without the blood. He's a house cat and very rarely ventures outside so the likelyhood of catching something from other cats is slim but I have still checked most of his recent stools for worms and there aren't any. He lets me squeeze his abdomen without telling me off, so no pain and he's his usual self. any idea what this could be?
Thanks :-)
We moved a little less than a week ago and she seemed to use the litter box just the same as before, but then i woke up and there was a little present that she left in my bedroom. I just found another one near the litter box.
Maybe the slight change of food is making her stomach upset? I accidentally bought the "indoor" version of The Goodlife Recipe instead of the "all ages" kind.. Could this be a reason as to why she doesn't make it to the litter box sometimes? Will she get used to the new food?
Im thinking about adopting a cat. I want to make sure I have everything down and bought before I get into it though.
I was told it is best to alternate between dry and canned food. I was also recommended The Good Life Recipe for dry food. Is that a good brand? What about canned food?
Is wet food the food that comes in "pouches"? Im looking at some of those brands online and Im seeing dry food and pouches.
I'm wanting to switch from commercial pet food to homemade but i can't find a pet nutritionist in Oklahoma anywhere and i want to be sure that they are getting a balanced diet before i whip up some recipes. I know I could consult my vet but they are just going to recommend science diet. WHICH IS CRAP! Today I went to the vet to get my kitten some shots. I told the vet that she has had diarrhea so they took a stool sample. She's not sick so her food must be the cause. I was basically forced into buying Science Diet "gastrointestinal health" for her. I know the vet and did not want to be rude to her...so my politeness cost me $20. Where can i find quality advice on pet nutrition for my two small breed dogs and cat???
First off, I have 4 cats and 2 dogs. All of them eat beneful, but It smells, and I'm sure tastes horrible. And Its not much healthier either.
Anyways, I would much rather cook them raw meat foods. But does anyone know any good recipes?
All of them are used to eating raw meat from when I'm baking, I always make sure to save some scraps for them. But what are good wholesome and nutritious recipes that are good for both dogs AND cats?
Hello,
So I have a 2 year old little cat named Sammy, and he used to be sort of a round guy. He's really small too, he looks like he's about 9 months old, even though he's fully grown. He used to have a bit of a pudgy body, but in the last few months, he's gotten incredibly skinny. Like, freaky skinny. We took him to the vet, spent a ton of money running all the tests we could for everything we could think of, and everything came out fine. So the vets advice was to just feed him as much as he could eat, and try to fatten him back up the old fashion way.
So I'm asking if any one has any suggestions on what to feed him, or knows any recipes full of calories, but not just fat. He's sort of a picky eater, he won't eat those little cat snack type deals. He LOVES turkey slices, and could eat those till the cows come home. He likes cheese too, but won't eat a ton of it.
So please, if you have experience with this- spread your knowledge.
Thank you :3
He doesn't throw up the turkey... All of my animals eat it, and their fine. I don't see why that would be any different then meats. And in fact, I've heard canned tuna is very bad for animals, and something that they add to preserve it can be toxic.
I agree with the tuna. And by freaky skinny, I meant you could see his ribs, and the vet said he was very under weight. I don't just give him treats, as I said, because primarily- he won't eat them. I don't want to just give him a fatty diet, "recipes full of calories, but not just fat", I'd prefer something fresh, with meat or grains like you said. He does eat his normal cat food, but not very much of it. We've tried to buy him a new food, but he refuses to eat that entirely.
And thank you 'Sgt Dustmop', I will check out those links and do a little research. I don't want to over feed him, I just want to get him healthy again. He's fur isn't as soft and he's face looks a little sunken. I just want him to be as healthy and happy as he can be. I care very much for my pets, and I don't like seeing him look unwell :( From the turkey, he has seemed to gain back a little weight, but not quite enough yet. I also think that because it's beginning to get colder, especially up in Washington, that he'll be inside more and hopefully pack on a little winter weight.
For english, we're supposed to write our own mythical stories and because I'm not a good writer or something, I came up with the following story. If there's anything that should be added (preferably something witty or funny) or fixed, please let me know.
One day in the hot and sunny town of Oakville, a girl was playing with her toys on her front lawn.
“Clo-ver!” Her mother’s voice called.
Clover rolled her eyes and ran to to the kitchen. “Yes, Mother?”
“Ah! There you are! Listen, I need you to go to your grandmother’s; she’s going to give you a recipe for me. And while you’re at it, why don’t you return this locket to your grandmother,” She hands a shiny silver locket to Clover. “It’s definitely hers, I just found it in my old coat’s pocket.”
“Yes, mother.” Clover replies with a tired voice.
Clover sighs as she leaves the house, wanting to go back to the heated food fight between Mr. Whiskers and Mrs. Cuddles. Sometimes she just wished she was free from responsibilities and she could do anything she wanted. A couple of dogs ran past her, and thought that if being an animal was the ticket to freedom, then so be it.
She walks through the small alleys of the small town, which are stuffed with merchants and fortune tellers with their stands. As she is about to turn to her grandmother’s street. A man accidentally bumps on her, making her fall.
“Ow!” She cries as she hits the ground, dropping the locket. She struggles to get up with all the people around her. But all she can see are the quick feet around her. And the fact that all the steps together are making dust clouds isn’t helping.
“Out of the way!”
“Get up, girl!” The people exclaim around her.
Clover rises with a feeling of guilt and anxiety deep in her throat. The locket is gone!
She walks away from the busy crowd and tries to make up a plan.
“It’s useless!” She says to herself. “Nothing’s going to make that locket appear again. But, oh! The madness that is waiting for me at home!”
And just as she heads to her mother’s to tell her the news, a voice stops her frozen on the spot.
“Not so fast there, girl; I saw what happened.” Clover turns around to find no one, and then she looks down.
A cat with velvety black fur and green eyes stares back at her own.
Clover pinches her right arm. Ouch! Definitely not dreaming.
“Do you want some help or not?” The cat hisses at her.
“Who are you? How can you talk? Where did-” Clover begins.
“I’m Cleo, and I’m a magician stuck in a cat’s body if that’s what you were going to ask.” The cat interrupts. “I can perform a couple of tricks with these paws, believe it or not. I saw that you’ve lost that precious silver locket you were carrying. I know a a spell that’ll bring it back sound and safe.”
The cat then added a big smile that looked kind of friendly and sinister at the same time.
Clover, not even hesitating replied, “Yes, please, kind...cat!”
Cleo smiled even wider and then said, “May I remind you, not all things in this world are free and easy, I do want something in return.”
“What?” Cried Clover with a pout. “What do I have that I can give you? I’ve got nothing!”
“Yes, you do, silly girl. Look at yourself and then back at me, what have you got that I don’t?”
Clover looks down at herself and than at the cat.
“Clothes?” She guesses.
The cat jumps. “No! You’ve got hands and feet! A body. A real body!”
“So?” Clover shrugs.
“So we can trade bodies and in return, the locket will be all yours.”
Clover stops and thinks for a minute, and she realizes that her freedom wasn’t so far away! If she trades bodies, she would be a cat, and that means no school and chores forever! And plus, she’ll get the locket back and make it back home in no time. She smiled as she thought of the many benefits she would get and nodded.
“As you wish, little girly.” Cleo smiles and Poof! As a cloud of dust disappears, there’s a beautiful young lady in place and a brown scruffy cat next to her.
And with another Poof!, a silver locket appears in the woman’s thin hands. “A promise is a promise, silly girl.” And with no other words, Cleo drops the locket next to the cat and leaves.
Clover realizes that she is, indeed, a cat and purrs in delight. It isn’t after a couple of minutes that she realizes that there is no way on earth she can deliver her grandmother’s locket or return home to enjoy her freedom as cat. And as she attempts to cry for Cleo, she also realizes that she can’t even talk, not in human language anyway. And that is why there is paper with a picture of a brown and shaggy haired girl on a wall with lots of candles around it and an alley known as the “Alley of the Melancholic Cat” in which a cat that “has always been here” resides. Or so says a beautiful young lady with black ha

I'm thinking about starting to make my own cat food! Can anyone suggest a good, easy, healthy recipe book for my new adventure? Preferably one that doesn't require you to add a lot... If any extra supplements. I'd really prefer for their nutrients to come from the food itself and not the multiple additives. Plus... It's kind of annoying :-) also... Preferably a book that may be carried at a pet store... Or book store? Although kindle is great...Sometimes I rather just have a book :-) thanks a ton!
Alright, so I know this si not a question but i just had to share it, so please try it out and comment! Thanks!
If you have a new kitten, who just came to your house and just left their mother and siblings this is the recipe for you!
Ingredients:
1/2 cup of LACTOSE FREE 2% milk
1 cup of your preferred type of HARD kitten food (BLUE BUFFALO kitten food is the best type)
I can of 3.0 oz (85g) soft kitten food; MUST be GRAIN FREE! (BLUE BUFFALO kitten food is the best type)
Cooking Directions:
Boil lactose free milk is small sauce pot for 5-10 minutes on low heat (you should start to see tiny brown/gold chunks in mixture). strain lactose free milk into a separate bowl, dispose of the chunky waist in strainer, wash sauce pot until all remains are gone and boil the remaining ( NON-CHUNKY milk on LOW again for 1-2 minutes or until warm. Soak dry kitten food in hot water until completely soft. Once the dry food has been softened add one tablespoon of the wet dry food to the boiling milk at a time, (still in sauce pot) once completely mixed in add can of soft kitten food to sauce pot, stir until completely mixed in take off low heat and let cool for around 30 minutes or until cool.
Feeding directions:
Feed small portions 4-5 times a day until food is gone and food is gone and your kitten should feel at home!
This food helps with the adjustment of your kitten to its new home, with the milk it is still reminded of the comfort of its mother, while still adjusting to its new food and the deliciousness of the mixture. Feeding smaller portions more times a day is also helping your kitten adjust as the mother cat feeds it kittens small portions various times of the day. This recipe should on be fed to kittens the minimum age of 5 weeks ( though you should not have a kitten younger than 8 weeks some people do) you should feed it at the minimum of this age because any younger it's dietary needs are different. and the maximum age you should start feeding your new kitten the mixture is 20 weeks although it is well weaned from its mother by this time it may have still lived with her and needs to comfort to adjust. please do not feed the kitten more than three pots as if it is not adjusted by this time, your kitten may have serious Development problems ( especially in older kittens, if they are not adjusting quickly)
so you can start feeding your new kitten this mixture any time between 5-20 weeks but do not feed more than 3 pots max while adjusting! Although you can always make a little bit for a little treat once an a while as kittens AND cats of all ages LOVE this recipe!
please comment and try it our for yourself! Good Luck!
My cats have been eating Natural Balance for about 2 and a half years now. I think the recipe has been changed, and/or just the food itself, because the food pieces are SIGNIFICANTLY smaller. I am finding throw up in my home a couple times a week when I get home and I am thinking, based on what I have read up on, that my cats are eating the food, and since the pieces are so small, they are not chewing it and are swallowing it whole, causing them to throw it back up.
I want to know what everyone thinks about Nutro Natural Choice food. My local fleet store carries this brand and I want to look into it. My only concern is that it contains Corn Gluten Meal as the second main ingredient, which I have been told is actually NOT a natural ingredient and is not good for cats. All reviews I have found on this food on several websites have been POSITIVE, so I just want to know what everyone else thinks!!
Thanks!
and please forgive me cuz I know it's a lot

Our cat is 11 or 12 months old. When we got him he was eating royal canin cat food. We have him on the goodlife recipe but I recently ready some things about it making me want to change him to something else. I want whats best for him but not something thats going to cost 40 bucks per bag
I also noticed he is getting a little heavy in the belly. We went camping in the beginning of August and I bought a food dish that basically keeps the bowl full. Its very possible he is eating too much should I remove that and only feed him twice a day? If so how much?
I'm going to my cabin on Spring River this weekend w/about 6 friends. I need something fairly easy and fairly cheap to cook after bein on the river all day soakin up sun and drank =) . I have pretty much a full kitchen including fridge, plus a grill. We will be there four days. All recipes will be appreciated! Thanks, Cat
Recently, he threw up. i know that doesnt seem like much but you can tell he isnt eating very much. his ribs arent showing but he is getting skinnier. he drinks water and he still eats but not as much as he used to. he isnt sleeping as often (5 hours tops) he still follows me around the house like usual. help?! I am unable to take him to the vet because i have no money until my paycheck comes. I will take him once it comes in the mail!!!!!! please tell me what i can do til then! He is a 6 year old (or 7 we dont know) Siamese (seal point) we normally give him the good life recipe dry food and wholesome pet wet food
Been feeding my 12 year old cats Wellness brand food for years (we alternate days of dry indoor formula with canned chicken & herring or turkey & salmon) and they were doing great on it but the last few months their interest is less in the dry indoor formula, although they still eat it because that's all that's offered every second day, and they've both been vomiting more than just hairballs the last few weeks.
Stool is also very potent smelling and there is more of it, a new development. Used to be in a span of 2-3 days I might have 1-2 piles to clean out of the box (with 2 cats) now it's 3-4 per day.
Has anyone else who feeds it noticed a change in their cats recently?
My poor 10 yr old kitty just had undergone vestibular syndrome (aka vertigo in the brain due to inflammation) and so basically his appetite went right out the door, and I had to force feed him through a syringe. Next thing was a kitty cold with a watery eye, and runny nose and plenty of sneezing. The poor little guy had one thing coming after another not to mention that before all of these he was a very very healthy spry cat. He is adventurous and loves to be active.
So now he is being picky, that or he WILL not eat anything dry anymore. Only wet food... (wet food is expensive) I also tried the trick of leaving out hte dry food so he would eventually eat it when he was starved enough... but now he only weighs 8.5 lbs (yeah... I am trying to make him eat ) he will eat lunch meat, shrimp, tuna and wet cat food... all things expensive am I right? so I was wondering if anyone has links for cat food recipes (chicken or something) that I can make in bulk and give to him over time and fatten him up and not have it cost 5 dollars a pop.
Thanks!
I recently found a kitten stuck in the grill of a car and decided to take care of it. The first thing i did was take her to the vet and find out what vaccines she would need and also de-wormed her.
I did have the cat on "Purina One Smart-blend Healthy Kitten Formula" thinking it would be good for her. However, after a bit of research i found it wasn't, so i switched her to "Blue Buffalo Wilderness Kitten Chicken Recipe". Later, after doing MORE research, i found that an all dry food diet wasn't good for her either so i picked up "Blue Buffalo Wilderness Kitten Chicken Recipe Canned Food". Being the cans are a little on the expensive side at $1.50 each and smaller than a can of tuna i could only get her 3. I was thinking i would feed her a can a week.
On a side note, I also switched her kitty litter from "Super Scoop" to "Worlds Best" finding out that the dust wasn't good for her. Only i put nothing but "Worlds Best" and apparently she wasn't used to it seeing how she urinated on my bed. I then mixed the two kitty litters and she went straight to it and did her thing.
My questions are- How much wet food should i feed her and when can i use all "Worlds Best" without mixing the two, also, witch vaccines are the most important for her and about how much do they cost (the vet seemed like he was just trying to get more money out of me by telling me all these vaccines that didn't seem like a must)?-
PS: The vet said she was about 2 months old and its been about a month since she went, rounding her about 3 months.
So there's this cat across the street from my house. It look like a kitten but i really can't get a general idea because it is across the street. I want to know how i can make the most dlicious cat food ever that when i put it in the trap it can't resist the smell and will come emediently! (however you spell it) Please Note: This trap will not harm the animal it will simply keep it to where if i want to look at it i can look at it and then give it the care it will need and then it can get a good home. I do not hurt animlas and have trapped cats with this rabbit trap before and they were very beautiful! I want everyone to know that i love animals dearly and would never hurt them, but i would help them! So right those recipes!
Recently I bought my cat Orijen. It contains 45% protein and 20% fat and 0% Grain. Now I noticed that my cat has swollen lump under her chin. Is she allergic to that food? I was feeding her Go natural before the store who has it doesn't sell anymore. I only have limited choices of good cat foods in my area. My only choices are Acana, Solid Gold and Orijen. Can you help me which should I feed my sensitive cat?
Here's formula of each cat food:
A.) ORIJEN
Orijen Adult Cat and Kitten dry cat food formula uses a very low-carbohydrate recipe. The ingredient ratio of this formula is 75% meat, 25% vegetables and 0% grains. The first five ingredients are Chicken, Chicken Meal, Turkey Meal, Russet Potatoes and Lake Whitefish. Other ingredients include sweet potato, salmon meal, spinach and apples. The Guaranteed Analysis contains 45% protein and 20% fat.
B.) ACANA
1. Acana Prairie Feast Cat Food - Acana's Prairie Feast formula is a chicken-based cat food, which also includes chicken eggs, Whitefish and Northern Walleye fish. Other ingredients include russet potatoes, juniper berries (which are potentially hazardous for pregnant dogs), alfalfa, pumpkin, sea vegetables and several different herbs (such as peppermint, chamomile and red raspberry leaf). The Guaranteed analysis of Acana's Prairie Feast cat food contains 35% protein, 19% fat and 3% fiber
.
2. Acana Pacifica Cat Food - Acana Pacifica cat food formula includes Flounder, Salmon and Herring as the main sources of protein. Some of the other ingredients include pumpkin, turnip greens, apples, bladderwrack, kelp, juniper berries, and several herbs. The Guaranteed Analysis of the Pacifica formula includes 35% protein, 19% fat and 3% fiber.
3. Acana Grasslands Cat Food - Acana Grasslands cat food is a Lamb-based formula, which also includes protein sources such as Lake Whitefish, chicken eggs, and duck meat. Other ingredients include sweet potato, alfalfa, pumpkin, kelp, and several herbs. The Guaranteed Analysis of this cat food formula includes 34% protein, 20% fat, and 3% fiber.
C.) SOLID GOLD
- Solid Gold Katz-n-Flocken Cat Food formula was recently reformulated by Solid Gold to contain Chicken Meal and Chicory root. Three of the first five ingredients are protein-based (Lamb, Chicken Meal and Fish Meal). Other ingredients include Millet, Barley, Flaxseed, Spearmint and Kelp. The Guaranteed Analysis of this formula contains 34% protein and 12% fat.
Do you think its the food that caused that swollen thing on her chin or maybe there are other causes like insect bites?
Yes I would definitely seek vet attention later. She already had swollen lips like 6 months ago and my vet conducted a biopsy 2 times already but both results were negative. The result is just maybe she's been bitten by insects or had a fight with my other cat.
Other pet stores sell not so good quality like Royal Canin, Iams, Science diet which I wouldn't want to feed my cat. Ordering online would make my shipping fee cost really high because I am outside US.
She loves chicken meat. I would try to give her boil or raw chicken. I am also giving her merrick canned thats the only good quality canned that I can find.
The one that I noticed now which is the swollen chin looks like the same thing on her lips 6 months ago. I really doubt there's other causes other than insect bites or allergic reaction. But I will still let her check by my vet just to make sure.
A friend of mine told me that as a treat you can give your cat a little bit of milk and add a lot of water to it. I drink skim milk. I want to make sure my cat is hydrated. I have a water fountain for her and I feed her Wellness wet food at night. I ran out of wet and now all I have left for today is her Wellness Complete Health De boned Chicken and Rice dry recipe. She is drinking out her fountain but I heard this and I wanted to know if it was safe. I heard cats can get sick from drinking milk. I did put a call into my vet and I am waiting for a call back.
I gave her a little bit. She drank some off her paw and then started drinking some. I immediatley took it away after reading some of the answers. She is now sleeping so i will keep an eye on her today and her litter box as well.
Hey, I've read that bought cat food can end up harming your cat as they get older, and it isn't very healthy for them?
I've looked up a lot of cat food & treat recipes, and was just wondering is it healthier to make food yourself rather than buy it? :)
Apparently, it can make your cat a lot happier, healthier and increase their life span.

The pet food recall scared us into making our own cat food at home. We did alot of research into cat nutrition requirements and went through alot of trial and error trying out new recipes for the cats - seeing what they liked and what they didn't. We ended up with quite a few super yummy recipes. Our friends begged us to share the recipes with them and we realized there were probably lots of other cat owners out there that would love to try these cat food recipes out on their cat too! So, 123 CatFood.com came into being. It really is as easy as 1-2-3.
